My Entrepreneurship Story

As far as my entrepreneurial experience goes, I’m not the most into getting my own ideas out there, but I do really like to help aid in the development of other people’s projects. For example, one of my older cousins currently works in the Walmart headquarters in Arkansas, and he’s currently trying to get into the home supply business with marketing new trash bags. His ideal market is college students, so he calls me often to ask for help or just to bounce around ideas.
I enrolled in this class as a requirement for my minor, but I also hope to gain a new understanding about how to see the world better through an entrepreneurial mindset. I’d also maybe like to learn more about what it takes to get a company up and running successfully. A member of my family is currently looking into taking over a donut shop in my hometown, so it would be cool to learn a little bit more about small businesses and how they fall under the entrepreneurship umbrella.
For my picture, I just couldn't stop thinking about a donut shop, so this is my favorite result from a good little search of donut memes on Google.

Bug List

The Bug List
  1. Whenever I go into Walmart, it seems like there’s only ever one or two checkout lanes open, even though there are over a dozen lanes actually there. This makes no sense to me. Why? This is probably because they only schedule enough workers for a few lanes, and want to concentrate the rest to the other parts of the store.
  2. Whenever it’s raining, it seems as if everyone forgets how to drive and slams on their brakes way too much as soon as they see brake lights anywhere. Why? This is because people get nervous and don’t want to rear-end other people, but it’s still really irritating to deal with.
  3. When you order pizza from Pizza Hut, at least  60% of the time the pizza isn’t cut right, but you never figure it out until you try and grab a piece and then the cheese falls off four other pieces. Why? The workers at the pizza place are probably trying to get the pizzas out faster, and aren’t taking the time to cut through the pieces as well as they could.
  4. It seems like when you’re walking through the movie theater, you always step on sticky spilled sodas when getting to your seat. And sometimes, if you’re like me and wear flip flops, they can get stuck to the floor and you step in the spill. Why? A lot of people just don’t care about taking their trash when they leave the movies and the cups might get knocked out of the cupholders and onto the floor.
  5. When apps crash during class and then they won’t reconnect in time to get attendance points. Why? This probably happens because my phone is a little old, but also there’s so many people in a lecture hall at once that the network can be a little glitchy.
  6. How whenever there’s construction on Archer road, the traffic gets down to one lane only and it takes 20 minutes to go one mile because the cars all have to inch by the construction workers. Why? A lot of the construction trucks need to move to different parts of the road and some of the equipment has to be moved, so they have to stop traffic to move and it makes one lane of cars go even slower.
  7. In some building on campus, the doors by the walkways open outwards, so if you or the person opening the door isn’t paying attention, you can get hit with a heavy door. Why? Originally, there probably weren’t supposed to be as many people in such a tight spot on campus so it didn’t matter which way the doors opened, but now a lot of people are on their phones and don’t pay attention to everything around them while they’re walking.
  8. I recently bought a sunscreen which was supposed to double as bug spray. Needless to say, it did not and I got eaten by bugs. When I read the back a little bit more, it said it only worked for a smaller amount of time as bug spray and was better as just sunscreen. Why? So I actually don’t know why this is, but it was not a pleasant experience.
  9. Last week, I went to go buy paint at Walmart and when I got home, I found out that the color on the bottle’s label and the color that paint actually was didn’t match. Why? The little paint bottles I was using were the cheap mass-produced ones, so they were probably just run through an assembly line the wrong way and got messed up.
  10. In parking lots, when you pull up to what you think is an empty spot, but then there’s a cart that got left right in the middle of the spot so you can’t park there. Why? This is because someone was lazy when they went to their car and didn’t return the cart, and it somehow made its way into the middle of the spot.
  11. When it gets close to dusk, some people don’t turn their car lights on, and it makes it really hard to see if they’re switching lanes. I’ve almost had a couple accidents that way. Why? Because if some people can see out of their windows, they think that it’s not yet dark enough to turn on their lights.
  12. Roommates that leave passive-egressive notes about one thing out of place, rather than talking to you in person or putting the one thing back in its place. Why? I think the reason this happens is because they want to have a certain aspect of control, but it really doesn’t make for a friendly living space.
  13. In Library West, with the moving bookshelves, whenever I’ve been around them, the person trying to move them doesn’t look on the other side before moving it first and they’re almost stuck other people between the isles. Why? This happens because it’s supposed to be quiet in the library, so the person moving the shelf probably doesn’t want to speak loudly enough to be heard to ask about people on the other side.
  14. On Gale Lemerand, when you’re headed towards the stadium, the lanes cut down and turn into a turn lane really fast with almost no warning. If you’re not familiar with this, you’re going to end up going the wrong way. Why? This is just kind of how the road goes. The only way it could be fixed is maybe adding a sign to clarify before the lane split.
  15. Some curling irons have a tendency to get hot on the handle in addition to the actual iron part, which can cause some obvious problems with operating the tool. Why? I’ve found this usually happens after the tool has been on for a good bit of time, and there is still metal under the plastic handle, which conducts heat.
  16. When driving on the interstate, rest areas have no sigh that say closed, but then when you pull over the doors on the restrooms are all locked and it’s during the day. (This has happened to me twice in the last month). Why? Probably because there is some sort of construction or maintenance going on, but no one thinks about putting a sign out back by the interstate.
  17. At pizza places with the cheese and red pepper shakers on the table, a lot of the cheese shakers are clogged up on top from the marinara sauce and don’t work right. Why? Having seen it happen in person, I know the reason the cheese shakers get clogged up is because people try shaking it too close to their food and then hit the pizza so the sauce gets into and clogs the holes at the top.
  18. When using GPS, sometimes it recalculates on your way somewhere and then starts a new trip from where you are and tries to turn you all around and makes it way complicated to get anywhere. Why? I think this might just be because of glitches in the app or if you have anything else running on your phone at the same time.
  19. In stores by the checkout, there’s always those magazines by the conveyor belt that you can look at while you;re waiting. Maybe it;s just my luck, but every time I pick up one of these, at least two other ones fall out of the holder and all over the floor. Why? The little plastic holders the magazines are in aren’t the sturdiest and the pages are slick and shiny, so they’re kind of just flimsy in general.
  20. In my apartment, a lot of the windows are uneven, to where if you unlatch one of the hinges, the other hinge won’t unhook easily and you have to do some creative wiggling to either close or open the window. Why? This is probably because the apartment has been there for a little bit, and with the humidity in Florida, little pieces of leaves, moss, and other things get stuck in the window screen and get worked up to around where the latches are.

Reflections:
This assignment was pretty hard just in the fact that you have to think of little things that you may only notice for a split second in the moment. Remembering all the little things that may get annoying were kind of hard, especially after I got into the second half of the list. I also feel like a lot of mine are small things that I may not have even noticed unless I was maybe having an off day. It helped me to sit in a public place and just observe. Either with other people and what they were doing, or snippets of conversations I heard.
